- Why do people think or believe that they are better than others?
- Are people naturally at their core good? Or are they at their core, bad?
- What is the worst thing someone could do to you? And what is the best thing someone could do to you?
“Well then, should we conclude that we Jews(God’s chosen people) are better than others? No, not at all, for we have already shown that all people, whether Jews or Gentiles, are under the power of sin. As the Bible say, “No one is good— not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All people have turned away; all people have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.”
“Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.” “Snake venom drips from their lips.” “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
“They rush to commit murder. Destruction and misery always follow them. They don’t know where to find peace.” “They have no fear of God at all.”
Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.”
Romans 3:9-20 NLT
- What does it mean that the “law simply shows us how sinful we are?”
- Do you have to be good to go to heaven?
““You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law.
For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.” For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God.”
- Why did Jesus have to die if you are the one who is guilty?
- How are you saved from your sin?
Teachers Section:
What is the main point of this lesson?
That we need a savior, because no matter who we are or where we have come from, no one is “good enough” to save themselves from their sins. Rather we need Jesus, the perfect lamb who gave himself on our behalf that we may be made right with God.
